What is NROC?

Northeast Radiation Oncology Center, known as
NROC, is a community cancer service jointly sponsored by Radiation Medicine
Associates of Scranton, (RAMAS), and
Community Health Services to better serve
patients and physicians in Northeast Pennsylvania.
NROC offers a range of radiation treatment
options unduplicated in the region. Providing both inpatient and outpatient
services, the physicians at NROC combine scientific excellence and compassionate
understanding for the entire spectrum of radiation care.
RAMAS and Mercy Hospital (now Regional Hospital of Scranton) have a long history of
collaboration. Mercy Hospital (now Regional Hospital of Scranton) in Scranton was a pioneer in developing radiation
therapy services in the 1960’s. Over the last 20 years, Mercy and the
physicians from RAMAS have worked together to provide the latest technologic
advances in radiation treatment and research.
Thanks to this newly-expanded creative
partnership between RAMAS and Community Health Services, cancer patients and their
families throughout the region will continue to benefit from state-of-the-art
treatment and research opportunities.
NROC offers 3 convenient locations at 1110 Meade Street, Dunmore, at Regional Hospital of Scranton, 746 Jefferson Avenue, Scranton, and Upper Delaware Valley Cancer
Center, 113 Pocono Drive, Milford, PA.
Combining scientific excellence
with
compassionate concern.

At Northeast Radiation Oncology Center, we
understand that a diagnosis of cancer can be very upsetting for you and your
family. You may have misconceptions about cancer treatment options and possible
treatment side effects. You may not know what radiation therapy is, or why it is
effective in treating cancer. That’s why we are here to help you ~ to listen
carefully to your concerns, provide thorough explanations, and address your many
questions and concerns through comprehensive education, social services support,
and nutritional counseling.
Before you actually begin your radiation
therapy, we spend considerable time planning your treatment very precisely and
determining your exact treatment dosage. At NROC, our exceptional
team of
physicians and medical physicists works closely with our therapists to assure
that this critical planning results in the best possible outcome for you.
We also provide the most advanced radiation
treatment options, such as Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy, known as
IMRT.
IMRT allows us to deliver a maximum dose of radiation to a cancerous tumor while
sparing surrounding healthy tissue from unnecessary exposure. Thanks to this
state-of-the-art therapy, we can reduce unwanted side effects so you can lead a
more normal, healthy life during and after your treatment.
